The sculpins of Lovers' Lane

Jenn has been making more sculpins! And these ones are pretty special. In place of regular glazes, these little fellas have a coat of local clay giving colour and pattern to their surfaces.

Bonne Bay has lots of lovely clay deposits, and Jenn is an expert at finding the best sources and digging them out! She's spent quite some time playing with local clay, and the outcomes are always fabulous.

It's possible to make small pieces, like pinch pots, from our local clay. But it's pretty unstable. So Jenn's favourite way to use it is as a slip to cover and colour the high quality stoneware that she uses in all Galliott Studios ceramics.

Unpacking sculpins from the kiln is always a treat, but today we got an extra fun little surprise. Jenn dug clay from a new spot in Woody Point, and we were excited to find that it's a much different colour to previous experiments! Previously, we used clay from Crawley's Cove, which gives a rich, dark brown colour. This clay is from Lovers' Lane, and has a soft, terracotta-brown colour.

We're in love with this clay, and with the wee sculpins adorned with it!

Stop by to see our Lovers' Lane sculpins, and other excellent ceramics. They're all made with love!

We're open! And we have beer!

Summer 2019 starts NOW!

We are open, we have coffee, we have treats, and we have new beer!

Rob from Crooked Feeder dropped by this morning to deliver deliciousness and pick up coffee.

We will have Crooked Feeder beers on tap all summer. We're big fans of Crooked Feeder. They're local (based in Cormack), and their beer is great. We can't wait for the sun to shine so we can enjoy a brew on the wharf!

Our current draft beers are:

Bonne Bay Blonde
This is a very approachable, easy-drinking beer that is very clear and bright. Rounded and smooth, it is a classic style known for its simplicity. The Vienna malt adds a toasted note the finish and the late addition of Amarillo hops adds a slightly floral note to take it beyond traditional domestic light beers.  4.9% ABV 21 IBU

Western Brook Wheat
A wheaty take an a traditional American Pale Ale. Cascade and Simcoe hops give this beer a bright citrus flavor with earthy undertones, aromas of grapefruit, pine and herb. 5.4% ABV 44 IBU

Rideout Red
A traditional Irish Red Ale that is lower in alcohol and not overly bitter. The use specialty roasted malts in this beer create a unique complexity within the finished beer and gives it a sweeter caramel-like flavor.   5.3% ABV 22 IBU

Bunker “C” Double Chocolate Oatmeal Stout
The addition of oatmeal adds a smooth, rich body to the Oatmeal Stout. This beer is black in color with a lovely brown head. The addition of loads of chocolate malt gives it a roasted malt character that is caramel and chocolate-like. 7.1% ABV 35 IBU

Drop by to try some fantastic 5 Brothers Cheese and a Crooked Feeder beer. We think they're a great mix!
